AWARD OF D.F.C.

HONOUR FOR TUTURAU AIRMAN

Pilot Officer A. L. Humphries, who has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, is a son of Mr and Mrs C. L. Humphries, of Tuturau. Born at Mataura 23 years ago, he was educated at the Tuturau school and later worked on his father’s farm.

Joining the Air Force three years ago, he remained for a year in New Zealand, completing his training in Canada. He has been on operational duties in Europe for several months and was recently promoted to the rank of pilot officer. Reported missing last March, he was later reported to be a prisoner of war. However, advice of his safety was received a fortnight ago. Pilot Officer Humphries is keenly interested in tennis.
