. Captain C. E. Miller has arrived in I Invercargill to take up his appointment as conductor of the Battalion Band. As the conductor of the band of the sth Brigade of the New Zealand Division in the Middle East, Captain Miller became well-known throughout New Zealand. In recommending Mr McKee, the chairman, Mr W. Bell, expressed appreciation of the services of the previous representative, Mr W. J. A. McGregor. Mr G. C. Hamilton, of Gore, has been nominated by the Mayor of Gore, Mr A. T. Newman, and the Mayor of Mataura, Mr C. D. McConnell, for a seat on the Southland Catchment Board as the representative of the combined districts of the Gore, Mataura and Winton boroughs and the Otautau, ■Nightcaps, Lumsden and Wyndham town districts. The returning officer for the area, Mr D. Harvey, stated yesterday that no other nominations have been received. The election will be held on June 9. Mr S. Anderson has been re-elected chairman of the Invercargill branch of the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-estab-lishment League. Mr J. Breen has been elected deputy-chairman. Guests at the Grand Hotel include Messrs O. E.' Holdsworth (Auckland), G. Mclnnes (Sydney), L. Frame, H. R. Lusk and H. W. Bedell (Wellington), T. Caryle, G. Plummer, I. D.
