FLYING OFFICER JOHN STEPHEN HARRIS, who has been awarded the D.F.C. The only son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Harris, of Ohai, he is 21 years of age. He was born in Ohai and educated at the Ohai School, and later at the Southland Boys’ High School, where he gained his matriculation. Flying Officer Harris joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in September 1942 and left for overseas in April 1943. He gained his wings in Canada, after which he went to England, completing his training there. He was flying a Lancaster bomber while on operations, and is now engaged in bombing instruction work. Before joining the R.N.Z.A.F. he was employed in the Lands and Survey Department, Invercargill.
