CO-OPERATIVE STORE AT RUNANGA
STORY OF PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT DENIED (P.A.) GREYMOUTH, December 18. Referring to a Press report that the Co-operative Society had received preferential treatment in Christmas supplies, Mr Thomas Bowes, the secretary, said the Runanga Co-operative Society had repeatedly appealed to the Minister, whose promise had not been fulfilled. The society was not even receiving treatment similar to that given to other traders, the shortage including tobaccos, biscuits and confectionery. It had received no Christmas hams and only 2121 b of bacon for 1900 persons for a week. The whole of the bakehouse supplies had also been cut down without due consideration.
