VALUE OF MEAT COUPONS

INCREASE DURING CHRISTMAS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 12. Mr Nordmeyer announced today on behalf of the Minister of Supply that the War Cabinet had decided to increase the value of meat coupons eight and nine, the H coupons being increased by 3d and the J coupons by a Id so that housewives will be able to provide higher-priced cuts of meat for Christmas. Both coupons will be available during the week before Christmas and the week following.

The War Cabinet has also decided that coupons for all rationed foodstuffs which would normally become available for the week beginning on Christmas Day should be available during the week before Christmas. No extra coupons are being allowed for sugar, tea or butter, but the earlier availability will enable housewives to plan for extra meals during the Christmas period. Mr Nordmeyer said ration coupons would be available as follows: —

Sugar and tea Numbers 5 to 12 will be available from December 18 to 24; Numbers 9 to 12 from December 25 to January 21. Butter—Coupons 7 to 10 will be available from December 18 to 24 and Numbers 9 and 10 from December 25 to January 7. Meat—Coupons 7, 8 and 9 will be available from December 18 to 24 and Numbers 8, 9 and 10 from December 25 to 31 and Numbers 9 and 10 from January 1 to 7.
