Members of the staff of ‘the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., met to bid farewell to Miss Eva Murray, who has been on the company’s staff for- the past 11 years. The manager, Mr W. J. McKitterick, in presenting the guest with a gold necklet chain and a writing compendium, referred to her loyal service with the firm, and wished her success and happiness in her new position. Miss Murray left for' Christchurch on Saturday. For the first time, the St. John Voluntary Aid Division has received a call from the Dunedin Public Hospital for voluntary aids for service in the new wards at the Taiboys Hospital and for relieving work in the daytime at the Public Hospital. Mrs V. C. Pottinger, provincial commandant of St. John V.A.s, making this announcement, said that a call had also been received from the Wellington Hospital Board which urgently required 100 voluntary aids for the Civil Nursing Reserve to meet the needs of its hospitals. “There will be considerable difficulty in Dunedin in meeting either call,” said Mrs Pottinger, “as most of the girls who were trained here and have joined the Civil Nursing Reserve are already serving in the North Island.” Mrs Pottinger issued an urgent appeal to all voluntary aids to offer themselves for service.
