Commercial STOCK SALE AT LORNE VILLE

FAT CATTLE PRICES IMPROVE Prices for fat cattle at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday were up to .£1 better than the prices the previous week. There was a firm market for fat wethers, but ewes were not in much demand in the closing stages of the FAT SHEEP.— The yarding of 601 fat sheep consisted almost wholly of ewes, the supply of wethers being very short. The market for wethers was firm and values for the better quality ewes, remained firm in the opening stages of the sale, while those for medium and average quality ewes were barely as good. Prices eased considerably in the concluding stages and passings were frequent. Good quality wethers realized 42/- to 44/3, medium 37/6 to 39/-, unfinished 34/- to 35/6, good quality, young ewes 33/- to 34/6, prime quality 30/- to 32/-, medium 27/- to 28/-, unfinished 25/- to 26/6 and inferior 20/to 22/-. FAT LAMBS.— The yarding of 28 fat lambs contained some really good quality lambs, but there were also poor sorts. The better quality lambs sold from 30/- to 36/6, medium 24/6 to 26/6 and unfinished 20/- to 22/-. STORE CATTLE.— The yarding was a very small one, a few poorly bred yearlings and light-conditioned cows only being offered. Best empty cows sold up to £5, other sorts £3 to £4, best yearling steers up to £4/10/- and mixed sex yearlings £2/15/- to £3/7/6. DAIRY COWS.— The bulk of the entry consisted- of cows and heifers in light condition. Best guaranteed cows sold up to £lO, other good sorts £7 10/- to £9 and light conditioned £4 10/- to £6. STORE SHEEP.— The store sheep section again attracted the large offering of 1713 head. Best ewe hoggets realized up to ’ 40/6, other good lots 37/6 to 39/-, smaller sorts 30/- to 33/-, best wether hoggets up to 25/- and shorn wethers 19Z- to 20/6. There was a poor demand for ewes and lambs, best lots selling up to 15/-, average sorts 12/- to 13/6 and cull lots down to 10/-. FAT CATTLE.— OnIy 72 fat cattle were yarded and values were fully £1 better than last week. Good quality medium-weight bullocks sold from £l9 to £2O/10/-, handyweights £l7/10/- to £lB/10/-, lightweights £l5 to £l6, unfinished £l3/10/- to £l4/10/-; prime quality heifers £l6 to £l7/5/-; good quality medium weights £l4/10/- to £l5/5/-; lightweights £l2 to £l3, smaller £9 to £10; prime quality cows up to £l6, good quality medium £l3 10/- to £l4/10/-, average £ll/5/- to £l2/5/-, unfinished £B/10/- to £9 10/- and inferior £6 to £7.

McNAB STOCK SALE There was a strong demand for fat cattle at the McNab stock sale yesterday. A big yarding was forward, heavy prime bullocks realizing up to £lB/7/6, medium from £l6 to £l7 and lighter down to £l2. Fat steers were wanted at from £l3/10/- to £l5/12/6. The best of the fat heifers on offer sold at £l3/15/- and others realized down to £ll. Yearlings made/ up to £5/2/6. In the dairy section, a cow made £ll/7/6 and a heifer £9/10/-. Fat sheep, of which there was a small entry, did not meet such a keen inquiry. Fat wethers found a market at 38/3 and a pen of ewe hoggets made 34/-.
