BOWLS

WINTON R.S.A. CLUB

There was u large gathering of bowlers and residents at the opening of the season and the new pavilion of the Winton R.S.A. Bowling Club. Mr T. Springford welcomed the visitors. The building cost £450 and with gifts, voluntary labour and other schemes the club has raised £420 of this amount. The Mayor of Invercargill, Mr A. Wachnet, said it was a privilege and a pleasure to be present and to renew acquaintance with former servicemen and he congratulated them on their splendid achievement.

Mr N. Metzger, Mayor of Winton, in opening the new pavilion congratulated the club on its enterprise and wished it every success. Mr R Balch, president of the Central Club, conveyed best wishes for a successful season. Mr G. W. Walters also wished the club success. Mrs Springford rolled the first bowl. A tribute was paid to Mr E. Ward, who had died since the closing of last season.

CENTRAL CLUB’S OPENING The opening of the Central Bowling Club, Winton, took place in beautiful weather. Visitors from Te Rangi, Waikiwi and Waianiwa Clubs were present. Mr R. Balch, president, welcomed the visitors and new members.

Mr D. M. Andrew, Te Rangi, and Mr T. Springford, Winton R.S.A., extended best wishes. Mrs Balch rolled a toucher, - — ______
