PIPING SOCIETY OF SOUTHLAND

Successful Ingleside There was a fair attendance at the ingleside held by the Piping Society of Southland in the Orphans’ Hall on Saturday evening. A piping competition for D Grade pipers was held. The society since J 940 has made the following donations.—Fighting Plane Fund £lO, radio appeal £lO, London relief fund £5 and Red Cross £4O 10/8. It has also purchased £7 in savings bonds. The competition for D grade pipers (first 15/-, second 10/-, third 5/-) resulted as follows:- t R. N. Morton, jun. (86pts) 1, Gordon Officer (85pts) 2, Clifford Blanchette (83pts) 3. R. Morton also holds for a term the D. J. Mclntyre Watt Cup for band marches. The judge was Mr J. J. McCrostie. Items were given by the following:— Song and dance duo, Misses Ballantyne; song and tap dance, Miss K. Ballantyne; sean triubhas and Highland fling, Misses K. Eunson, B. Smith and B. Thompson. Mrs Ballantyne was the accompanist.
