PERSONAL.
Colonel David Pottinger, who has had five years’ service with' the New Zealand Medical Corps in the Middle East, arrived in Invercargill on Saturday night. He returned to New Zealand with a recent draft of sick and wounded men.
Mr J. O’Brien, senior supervisor of the postal branch of the Chief Post Office, Invercargill, and Mr J. Hannan, of the clerical staff, who have retired on superannuation, were guests of honour at a social function and dance tendered to them by then' fellow workers on Friday evening. Mr W. G. Nield presided and presentations of a wristlet watch to Mr O’Brien and of a silver teapot to Mr Hannan were made on behalf of the staff by the chief postmaster, Mr F. A. Robins, who referred to the long and conscientious service of each officer. 1 Other speakers were Messrs J. B. E. Stanley (accountant), W. H. Walker (senior supervisor of the telegraph branch), R. J. W. Blick (supervisor of the clerical branch), J. M. McKay (supervisor of the engineer’s office) and L. J. W. Hitch (senior supervisor of the postal branch). ,
