COAL MINES TAKEN OVER BY STATE

Second In Australia

(Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 8. The Commonwealth Government will take over its second coal mine next Monday. This mine is at Lidsdale, western N.S.W.

The first mine to be taken over by the Commonwealth after the new Coal Production Act came into force on March 8, was Coalcliff on the south coast. Work there was resumed on March 14, after a general strike on the southern field had caused a production loss of about 230,000 tons in a month. There have been no recent disputes at Lidsdale, where work has continued regularly. The Commonwealth is taking over the mine so that it can install additional machinery to increase production.
