GANDHI RELEASED

Decision On Medical Grounds

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, May 5. Mr Gandhi has been unconditionally released, states the India Office. The decision was taken solely on medical grounds. A medical report issued by Mr Gandhi’s doctor soon after his release stated that Mr Gandhi has become very weak as a result of malaria and is suffering from physical and mental exhaustion. Mr Gandhi was arrested on August 10, 1942, when serious demonstrations followed his civil disobedience campaign against the British Government.
