MAN-POWER APPEALS
Directions Opposed
Several appeals against toe directions of toe district man-power officer were heard by the Industrial Man-power Appeal Committee for Otago and Southland sitting in Invercargill yesterday. ‘ The appeal -of Robert M. Burgess, against toe direction that he should accept employment as a flax-mill hand, was not allowed. A similar appeal by James C. Young was also disallowed. William A. Denholm appealed against the refusal to permit him to terminate his employment in a woollen mills. He had been man-powered ’ from camp to the job, said toe appellant, and he had been given an undertaking that when he became 21 years of age he would be allowed to rejoin toe Army. He asked that that promise be kept as he desired to go into toe Air Force. The appeal was allowed as from August 31, 1944. , . The committee allowed the appeal of Vera M. Colyer, who sought permission to terminate her employment at a mental hospital. She was directed to take up nursing at Kew Hospital.
