CIVIL DEFENCE WORK
County Council Thanked
By Minister
A letter of appreciation of the service which had been given by the council during the period of national emergency was received from the Minister of Civil Defence at a meeting of the Southland County Council yesterday. “In view of my impending departure from New Zealand, which will necessitate a severance of my connection with the Emergency Precautions Organization, I would like to take this opportunity of expressing to you my appreciation of the very fine service you gave to my department and to the country during the period when the threat of invasion of our shores appeared to be imminent,” stated Mr Wilson. “I feel sure that any services which you may be called upon to carry out in the future will be done as cheerfully and as effectively as in the past, and I | know that you will afford the same cooperation and support to my successor as has been shown to me.”
