CIVIC RECEPTION TO THEOLOGIAN

Dr John Henderson Arrives In Dunedin

A civic reception was tendered in the Dunedin City Council Chambers on Wednesday afternoon to the Rev. Dr John Henderson and Mrs Henderson, who have recently arrived from Edinburgh. Dr Henderson has been appointed Professor of Theology and Church History in the Presbyterian Theological Hall, Knox College. The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr A. H. Allen) in company with the Mayoress and councillors and representatives of various city organizations, welcomed Dr and Mrs Henderson. He expressed gratification that in the appointment a further link was forged in the chain binding Dunedin to its “mother city,” Edinburgh. Dr Henderson expressed his thanks for tfie kindness and hospitality of the Dunedin people,' and his pleasure at seeing how firmly the civic life of Dunedin was based on a religious foundation. .

Dr Henderson was until his present appointment minister of St. Margaret’s, Juniper Green, Edinburgh. He graduated’M. A. at Edinburgh in 1926 and Ph.D. in 1940. He has been the holder of the Hamilton scholarship, the senior Cunningham fellowship arid the Kerr travelling scholarship. Under the last he studied in Europe under two of the world’s foremost theologians, Professors K. Hein and K. Barth. His appointment to the New Zealand Presbyterian Theological Hall was made at the General Assembly held in Dunedin last November.
