RELEASE OF TABLE POTATOES

Fair Stocks Held In Southland The release of table potatoes for general sale has been authorized by the Food Controller. For about two months stocks of table potatoes have been “frozen,” the intention being to ensure that sufficient would be available for seed. It is apparently considered now that purchases will have been made of all seed required and that table lines remaining may be sold for domestic consumption. Considerable stocks of table potatoes have been held by merchants in Southland, and it is not expected that there will be any acute shortage before the new season’s crop comes on to the market. At present merchants consider it is unlikely that local stocks will be shipped or railed north.
