Lieutenant-Colonel J. A. Thomson, chaplain of the forces, is spending a week’s leave in Invercargill from a northern military camp.

Dr T. McKibbin, of Dunedin, medical officer .of health for Otago and Southland, is visiting Invercargill. Mr M. W. Grantham, chairman of the Otago and Southland Industrial Man-Power Committee, is spending a few days in Invercargill. He will visit Mataura tomorrow to preside at a sitting of the committee. Lieutenant-Colonel A. A. Tennent is at present visiting Invercargill. He recently returned to New Zealand after spending four months as a prisoner of war in Italy. Yesterday he attended a meeting of the executive of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council and gave members an interesting account of his experiences as a prisoner of war and some advice on the question of sending parcels to prisoners. Lieuten-ant-Colonel Tennent is a former pupil of the Waihopai School. His father was at one time manager of the Invercargill branch of the Bank of New South Wales.

Mr F. G. Craig, district railways traffic manager, has returned to Invercargill from a tour of railway areas in Western Southland.

Messrs G. Dennis, James Henderson and B. Henderson have been re-elected to the directorate of the Woodlands Dairy Factory Company. Mr R. J. McConville, supervisor at the Winton post office, is acting as postmaster at Otautau during the illness of Mr E. T. Silverwood.

After eight months in the United States, Mr G. C. Seers, managing director of General Motors New Zealand Limited, returned to Wellington last week.”

Mrs J. Hynd, 169 Elies Road, has received word that her son, Colin Hynd, who is training with the R.N.Z.A.F. in Canada, has obtained his wings and now holds the rank of sergeant.

Ramsay visited Bluff yesterday and conferred with the Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick, the chief controller of the E.P.S. at Bluff, Mr T. Boyd, Dr A. R. Ross and Mr J. S. A. McDougall, Bluff representative oil the Southland Hospital Board, about the equipping of the medical unit of the Bluff E.P.S. The deaths of Messrs T. H. Watson (Invercargill), F. Moore (Winton), A. Horne (Mataura) and Andrew Martin (Gore), are referred to in the annual report of the Southland Justices of the Peace Association, of which they were members.
