PETAIN’S AGREEMENT WITH LAVAL

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) ' VICHY, June 12. Marshal Petain, in a speech at a luncheon to regional heads of the French Legion which the Prime Minister, M. Pierre Laval, gave to quieten fears of members of the legion regarding his collaborationist police, declared: “Never was our policy more united. M. Laval and I have shaken hands. We walk hand-in-hand. M. Laval’s policy is mine. He speaks in agreement with me. I speak in agreement with him.” At this point Laval wept.
