SHORTAGE OF RUBBER IN AMERICA

(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 11

The Under-Secretary of War, Mr Robert P. Patterson, told the Senate Banking Committee that the Armed Forces faced a possible shortage of 200,000 tons of rubber in 1943. Army and Navy requirements during the 12 months would be 800,000 tons, while reserves were only 600,000 tons. Mr Patterson said the estimate had been made after every possible economy, including removing rubber from tank tracks.
