Adamson, Morton street, has returned from a visit to her daughter, Mrs G. L. McFarlane, Gisborne. Mrs J. Mulcahy, Sydney street, has returned from Winton, where she was the guest of Mrs Blee, Blee’s road. Miss June Bath, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs A. E. H. Bath, Elies road, will return to Christchurch tomorrow. . Misses Jean and Helen Lyness, Ken Keri, Bay of Islands, are visiting Invercargill for the Lyness-Owen-John-ston wedding. Mrs E. N. Horton and her small son are the guests of Sergeant E. N. Horton’s parents, Mr and Mrs S. B. Horton, Teviot street. Miss Mary Nichol, Clifton, was hostess at a kitchen afternoon on Monday for Miss Shirley Owen-Johnston, whose wedding takes place tomorrow. Mr and Mrs Hugh Carswell, Dunedin, will be the guests of Mrs V. A. Mehaffey, Grey street, for the Lyness-Owen-Johnston wedding. Miss Nancy Just, Dunedin, will arrive tonight for the Lyness-Owen-Johnston wedding, and will be the guest of Miss Mary Nichol, Clifton. Miss R. Israel, Dunedin, arrived last night to stay with Mrs L. G. Israel, Wellington street, for the Lyness-Owen-Johnston wedding. _ Mrs J. R. Lyness, Keri Keri, Bay or Islands,' will be the guest of Mrs A. Owen-Johnston, Wellesley ayenue, for the wedding of her son to Miss Shirley Owen-J ohnston., Miss F. Adams, Timaru, Mrs Orr Campbell, Mrs Roy Rutherford, and Miss Jean Guthrie, of Dunedin, will be visitors to Invercargill for the Lyness-Owen-Johnston wedding. „ The resignation of Mrs J. R. Martin as a member of tire executive of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council and as a member of the council was accepted with regret at a meeting of the executive yesterday. The executive decided to send a letter to Mrs Martin expressing thanks and appreciation for her services. At the Plunket Aid lecture on Saturday afternoon a practical demonstration, with a real baby as the nwdel, will be given by Nurse Mclntyre. These classes, which are being held in connection with the W.W.S.A., are being well attended by the women who ■will care for mothers and babies in a time of emergency. Plunket Aids are also being given an opportunity to join physical fitness classes. The three-act play ‘Tell Me the Truth,” by Leslie Howard, was read by members of the Play-Reading Circle of the Women’s Club last night, with the following cast:—Vane, Mrs H. Parker; Mrs Cass, Mrs A. M. Macdonald; May Tweedie, Mrs T. F. Gilkison; Elizabeth Tweedie, Mrs H. Drees; George Appleway, Mrs H. H. Roy ds; Amelia Tweedie, Mrs H. R. Kingsland; Worthington Smythe, Mrs M. Woods; Uriglly, Miss K. McCulloch; Chorus, Mrs J. S. Robbie. . , A happy evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs H. A. Lyons to celebrate their golden wedding. A decorated wedding cake was the gift of Mr and Mrs W. Swale, and a feature of the decorations was the floral spray used in 1892 at their wedding. Mr and Mrs Lyons were presented with a gold locket and chain and a gold-mounted walking stick from the family. They received many congratulatory telegrams from all parts of New Zealand, including one from the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., and from Australia and the Middle East. Mr George Brown was chairman.
