RAID ON BROOME
ONE FIGHTER SHOT DOWN (8.0.W.) RUGBY, March 4 The Japanese raid on Broome in Western Australia, yesterday, caused some casualties, states an Australian Air Ministry communique, which adds that one Japanese fighter was shot down. The enemy used fighter aircraft fitted with long range, detachable petrol tanks. Royal Australian Air Force machines attacked a Japanese aerodrome and shipping at Gasmata in New Britain last night. There are no details of the damage. Port Moresby in Papua was attacked by the enemy for 20 minutes yesterday afternoon. The Japanese used both fighters and bombers with no marked success, although some damage was caused during the attack, which was directed on aerodromes and harbour installations.
