LABOUR FOR FARMS
NEED FOR REMOVING ANOMALIES (PA..) DUNEDIN, March 3. The Otago Provincial Council of the Farmers’ Union today passed the following resolution: This council notes the assurance given by the Minister of Agriculture that labour will be made available for sowing crops and harvesting, but respectfully points. out that many crops have been lost this season because men were ordered to camp in the middle of harvesting and that shearing was disorganized for a similar reason, At the present time farmers requiring men for harvesting have to apply for their own men regardless of whether these men are in camp in North Auckland or eleswhere. To this council it appears absurd that men should be brought from North Auckland for a few weeks’ harvesting in Otago when several hundred, experienced farmers are in camp adjacent to Dunedin. It seems imperative that machinery be devised to straighten out these anomalies and enable essential farming operations to progress with as, little dislocation as possible.
