PLEDGE TO FIGHT JAPANESE

OATH TAKEN ON KORAN (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 2. Alonto, Sultan of Mindanao, who is a ■'ember of the Philippine Senate, has sent a message to General McArthur stating that 10,000 Moros in the island have sworn upon the Koran never to lay down their arms until the Japanese are ejected from the Philippines. They have also pledged themselves to disregard differences of religion between Christians, Mohammedans and Pagans in order to destroy the enemy of good government. A Washington communique states that there has been practically no ground operations in the Batan area in the past 24 hours. Enemy air activity has been confined to some local bombing and raids behind the American lines. No damage was done.
