TRAMWAY REVENUE RISING
The extent to which the city tramways have benefited from petrol restrictions was indicated in a report received by the City Council last night from the city electrical engineer (Mr A. C. Carman). During January the revenue showed an increase of £450 compared with the same month of last year and 55,000 more passengers were carried. The increase in revenue represented about 25 per cent, and the extra distance travelled by the tramcars was less than 3 per cent. The revenue for the month was £2237 compared with £1787 for the same month last year and the number of passengers carried was 277,406 compared with 222,512 in January 1941. For the 10 months of the financial year ended January 31, the revenue was £19,263, compared with £18,194 in the previous financial year, an increase of £1069 and an increase of £2lOB on the same months of 193940.
