CHECKS STRIKE NEW FASHION NOTE
SOUTHLAND RACING CLUB’S . SPRING MEETING At the Southland Racing Club’s spring meeting held in Invercargill on Saturday beautiful weather gave the feminine visitors an opportunity of displaying the new season’s outfits. As at the two days at Gore, grey was popular, _ but the fashionable trend was _ definitely towards checks of all designs and colours. A particularly striking outfit was a brown and tan checked suit worn with a tan hat and accessories. A teal suit in a larger checked design with high revers and square pockets was worn with a teal jumper and hat. A mulberry suit and hat with mulberry accessories struck a new note. All the suits and costumes featured the longer jackets and high revers. Hats expressed the new season’s styles for more tailored lines and were practical and serviceable looking. • Among those noticed on the lawn were Mesdames W. E. Hazlett, A. F. Speight, J. Murray Wilson, Angus Macdonald, C. C. Anderson, F. C. Rowley, W. J. Barclay, R. Cruickshank, W. G. Asher, Roy Anderson, C. Wallis, E. J. Patton, M. C. Fairbrother, Russell Hosie, L. W. Spencer, E. V.
