SALVAGE WORK ON WAIKOUAITI

The past two days have been ideal on the surface of Foveaux Strait, but the diver working on the wreck of the Waikouaiti reported that down below the sea is as “thick as pea soup,” no doubt because of _the b uge /O j ume o f water which the '.Vaiau, Aparima and New River emptied into the sea during the stormy period last week. More than seven tons of cargo have been salvaged in these two days, consisting of Nos. 8 and 9 plain, barbed and reinforcing wire and sheep netting. All this cargo was in very good condition.

Mr R. T. Parsons, a member of the salvaging syndicate, said the electric magnet would be completed by about Wednesday. When this was operating a punt might be used to carry the steel. The punt would then be towed home behind the Marina, the salvaging vessel.
