NATIONAL SAVINGS
SOUTHLAND’S INVESTMENTS TOTAL £118,600
Since the middle of October 1940, when the National Savings campaign began, the amount of £lOO,OOO has been received at post offices in Southland as deposits to National Savings accounts. In addition £18,600 has been deposited with the Invercargill Savings Bank, making a grand total of £118,600 which is repayable on June 30, 1945. As there are some 16,400 accounts in Southland, the average deposited for every account is £7/5/-. These figures do not include | National Savings bonds. Under the recently introduced weekly quota scheme, Southland is expected to find £3957 weekly by National Savings deposits and the sale of National Savings bonds. Invercargill’s investments for Monday amounted to £l6O and £lBB3 more is required to reach the objective of £2043 set for this week. _ When the objective is reached a special National Savings flag will be flown at the Chief Post Office. Several purchases of bonds by local institutions are expected so that Invercargill may have the honour of equalling the several northern cities which have already reached their weekly quotas.
