SOCIAL EVENING AT WAIKAKA VALLEY
A social evening was held in the Waikaka Valley church hall recently in honour of Mr A. N. Donald, of Maitland, who has since left the district to join the Tank Brigade at Waiouru camp. There was a large attendance and the Rev. W. H. D. Warin was chairman. During the evening an excellent programme of , musical and elocutionary items was contributed by a party from Gore, assisted by Wai-
kaka Valley performers. A presentation of a soldier’s Testament and a fountain pen was made to Mr Donald by the chairman on behalf of district friends. Messrs H. Smith, J. P. Thayer, A. Nichol, H. P. Mclntyre, J. Dynes, A. R. Johnston, R. Cumming and W. Excell also spoke and wished Mr Donald success in the Army. Items were given during the evening by the following: Miss Hobbs, Messrs C. H. Weir, D. Russell and D. Harvey, Mrs A. Waddell and Mr R. B. Barnett. Mr Barnett and Mrs ,J, P. Thayer were the accompanists, •
