U.S. SEEKS DESTRUCTION OF HITLER MENACE
PRESIDENT TALKS OF FUTURE SACRIFICES (United Press Association —Telegraph Copyright) (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 26. “The destruction of the Hitler menace is the real and inescapable end of American foreign policy,” said President Roosevelt in a message to the Foreign Association Forum. He pointed out that in achieving that end America’s responsibility was fully as great as those who were fighting and dying for it. “I know our country will not shrink from that responsibility or from equal sacrifice when the critical hour arrives,” he said.
A message from Washington says that Colonel Frank Knox, Secretary of the Navy, in an article in the Army and Navy Journal writes: “Out westward the Orient is like a vast powder keg—potentially ready to explode with a roar that will be heard all the way across the ocean. Only a miracle seemingly can prevent the collapse of Russian organized military strength, and the democracies everywhere are praying that this miracle will occur. Axis troops are more than a threat in East Africa and on the African shore just across the Atlantic from our land. India and Singapore may be next on the Axis list.”
