Mr R. A. Fernandez, registrar of the Social Security Department, Invercargill, is at present on annual leave. During his absence Mr W. J. McMillan, chief clerk, will act as registrar. Captain W. R. J. Pollock, of Gore, is promoted to the rank of major and becomes commander of the Gore Battalion of the Home Guard, states the Gazette. Messrs N. Metzger, Mayor of Winton, H. C. Gimblett, Southland County clerk, and J. L. Lennie, of Invercargill, have been appointed additional members of the Forest Hill Scenic Board, states the Gazette. Mr J. Curran, stationmaster at Bluff, is on annual leave. He is being relieved by Mi- J. Orr, chief transport officer at Invercargill. The following appointments in the Transport companies in the Home Guard at Invercargill and Gore are announced in the Gazette: Invercargill: Company commander, Captain R. F. Jones; section commanders, Lieutenants H. H. Murphy, A. Scobie and F. O. Rice. Gore: Company commander, Captain F. J. Townsend; second-in-com-mand, Captain S. B. Taylor; section commanders, Lieutenants A. F, Osborne, T. J. Stark and G. S. Valentine. Messrs D. McGillivray, J. R. Anderson, W. M. Gill, J. Rule and G. A. Stewart have been appointed members of the Benmore-Limehills River Board, states the Gazette. Messrs James Ritchie and C. M. Wilson, president and acting-secretary respectively of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association, will attend a special meeting of the Dominion executive in Wellington on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. They will, leave Gore by the express tomorrow morning. Official advice has been received that Corporal A. H. Stirling, son of Mr and Mrs J. H. Stirling, Morton street, is a prisoner of war in Germany. He had been reported missing since June 12. Pastor A. J. Gibbs, of Auckland, has accepted a call to the Gore Baptist Church.
