TRAINING OF HOME GUARDSMEN
INSTRUCTORS BEGIN DUTIES The three instructional officers recently appointed to No. 12 Home Guard area, Captain W. J. Leith and Warrant Officers F. Rogers and G. L. Smart, have begun their duties. On Saturday Captain Leith and Warrant Officer Smart visited Orepuki, and because the weather was unfavourable small arms instruction was given in the public hall. Warrant Officer Rogers visited Tussock Creek on Saturday evening and gave a talk on the rifle. Members of the unit expressed appreciation of the instruction received. Until definite arrangements have been made for transport, it will not be possible to draw up a full itinerary to enable the instructors to visit all units in the area. These units number 45, exclusive of those at Invercargill and Waikiwi. The smaller and more isolated units are probably most in need of the services of the instructors.
