PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES AT KINGSTON
Sir, —Mr Archie McCaughan says that “the statement that the majority of the patriotic committee are on the social committee is a false one.” This, to me, seems a trivial matter. As I was a resident of Kingston at the time the old condemned school was renovated, I may say that, the floating population and a resident who, I understand, is still living at Kingston deserve the credit for the renovation. The labour was given free'' and the only cost was for wallpaper. Mr McCaughan should give honour where honour is due. “Curious” has asked for information about the committee of which Mr McCaughan is at present chairman. As for the social committee contemplating more improvements at a time like this, money would be more wisely spent on patriotic purposes. I cannot see anything imaginary about “Curious’s” statement that “if the social committee is collecting public money for soldiers’ parcels, 1 should say that is illegal,” as Mr Grieve stated in your paper on September 27: “There can be only one patriotic committee in a district and to this committee is delegated all powers to collect money and goods for patriotic purposes.”
OLD RESIDENT.
