RADIO APPEAL DONATIONS
LESS THAN £lOO STILL UNPAID Less than £lOO is now outstanding of the sum of nearly £5OOO promised by Southland listeners on the occasion of the radio appeal for the Patriotic Fund on Anzac night last April. A few weeks ago a circular letter was sent to those who had promised donations and who had omitted to redeem their promises. It was pointed out at the time, however, that receipt of a letter did not necessarily imply that the recipient* had failed to pay his or her donation as it was recognized that there was a considerable margin for error. This, in fact, has proved to be the case. It has been found, for example, that a number of district committees in forwarding amounts to Mr W. F. Sturman, honorary treasurer of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Fund, omitted to mention that they were made up of radio appeal donations. They were not, therefore, credited to the radio appeal fund until the omission was rectified. The discovery of other errors has also helped to reduce the apparent deficit. Besides, there has been a satisfactory response from people who really had failed to redeem their promises.
