DEATH ON ACTIVE SERVICE

FLIGHT-LIEUTENANT 11. M. HAMMOND Word has been received by cablegram from the Air Ministry, London, of the death on active service as a result of air operations of Flight-Lieu-tenant Howard Moule Hammond, of Wellington. He was aged 26, and joined the Royal Air Force, jn London, in October 1936 and was later transferred to the Fleet Air Arm, serving throughout the war until his death was reported. He was the son of Mr William Hammond, of Wellington, and he was born at Gore, and educated at the Southland Boys’ High School and Wellington College. After four years at sea as a cadet in the New Zealand Shipping Company’s service, the late FlightLieutenant Hammond joined the Royal Air Force. He was married in England in October last.
