REDUCED LIGHTING IN COUNTY

Reporting ’to the Southland County Council yesterday on the steps taken to enforce the lighting restrictions the Southland and Wallace County Councils’ lighting controller (Mr W. H. Gregory) said that people had been very helpful and everything possible had been done. The authorities appointed for the various areas had all co-operated well. Mr Gregory said he had written to the Dominion Lighting Controller suggesting that the road from the Oreti river bridge to the Oreti Beach and also along the beach should be made a parking light restriction area. He had been out at sea and the lights of vehicles on this section of the road could be clearly seen from the straits. This suggested restriction had not yet , been Gazetted.
