NO PROPOSALS UNDER CONSIDERATION
WIDENING OF NORTH AND EAST ROADS The Main Highways Board has no proposals under consideration for widening either the North road or the East road, according to a letter from the board’s representative on the No. 18 District Highways Council (Mr W. G. Pearce) received at yesterday’s meeting of the Southland County Council. “The possibility of widening the North road was investigated some time ago, with particular reference to the separation of cycle traffic, but after full consideration the matter was dropped,” stated the letter. “It is intended to widen the surfacing on this road as soon as funds will permit, which will greatly relieve the position, and if the City Council proceeds with its proposals to scrap the trams then the removal of the tramline will make a great improvement in traffic conditions.” Referring to the East road, the letter stated that traffic density was very much less on this road than on the North road and no proposal had been considered.
