EXCELLENT EXAMPLES IN COMPETITION
A meeting of the Southland Photographic Society was held on Wednesday in the club rooms. The monthly competition (cloud study) attracted a good number of entries and the excellent prints submitted showed the results of careful work and good technique. The judging of this competition resulted: “Sunlit Clouds” (Mr W. H. Tustin) 1, “Banners of Evening” (Mr L. C. Pickford) 2, and “Storm Clouds Over Wanaka” (Mr Tustin), and “Nature’s Curfew” (Mr Pickford) equal 3. The second part of the evening was occupied by a screening of a film in black and white and full colour taken by the president, Mr J. H. Sorensen. With the oyster fleet in Foveaux Strait, mutton-birding on Stewart Island and gold-mining at Orepuki were some of the scenes shown
In his vote of thanks to the president, Mr Tustin spoke of the particularly good showing of the colour shots of native birds on Stewart Island and the interesting nature of the whole film. Thanks were also extended to Mr J. Williams for bringing his projector for the screening. The next fortnightly meeting will be a final appraisal of the prints entered for the Bledisloe Cup competition. As a result of the society’s entry in this inter-club competition the whole set of prints from all the camera clubs in the Dominion will be shown in Invercargill at a later date.
