SOLDIERS’ INCOMES

QUESTION ABOUT TAXATION

(Special) WELLINGTON, June 12. The payment by soldiers overseas of Social and National Security tax on income other than their pay was the subject of a question of which Mr W. J. Polson (Nat., Stratford) gave notice in the House of Representatives today. The question was directed to the Minister of Pensions, the Hon. W. E. Parry. Mr Polson asked whether the Minister was aware that soldiers overseas were compelled to pay Social and National Security tax on income other than their pay, although they could derive no benefits from such payments. He added that others who resided overseas temporarily were relieved of such taxation. The Minister was asked if he would take steps to rectify the matter.
