FIFTH COLUMNISTS IN GREECE
The activities of fifth columnists have not been linked with the campaign in Greece in any news bulletins received from overseas, and it is therefore the more painful to come across references to their work in letters sent home by soldiers. Writing home about his experiences in Greece, an Invercargill soldier has this curt observation to make: “You trusted no one over there. We were taught a real lesson early in the piece. The country was rotten with fifth columnists and they caused a lot of trouble.”
