NEW OFFICERS
OVERSEAS COMMISSIONS Demonstrating the Army’s policy of obtaining most of its new subalterns from non-commissioned ranks serving in the field overseas, a list of 21 recent-ly-commissioned second-lieutenants is contained in the current Gazette. All the promotions were granted last month. One of the new officers is D. C. Coombe, New Zealand Davis Cup tennis player. He was in Britain when war broke out and enlisted there. Another who has won promotion is H. D. Ball, well-known athlete and a former New Zealand hurdles champion. The others are: —B. H. Brown, D. G. Edgar, G. Fordyce, A. D. Jacobs, D. F. McFarlane, J. K. Palmer, F. F. Polhill, R. D. Trounson, J. B. Walton, R. B. Corlett, N. Forbes, J. H. Fullerton, L. De V. Gilbert, A. H. Madden, K. E. May, N. H. McMillan, W. A. Swarbrick, F. E. Waters, C. McA. Wright.
