BIRTHDAY PARTY
WOODEND WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
A happy function was held in the Woodend Hall recently to celebrate the sixth birthday of the Woodend Women’s Institute. There was a big attendance, and the evening was spent in dancing and cards. I The president, Mrs V. Jordan, ex- I pressed a welcome to the visitors and I briefly outlined the activities of the in- j stitute during the past year. Miss Leith was then called upon to light the candles on the cake and Mrs J. Robertson extinguished them, the president cutting the first piece. The following extended greetings to the institute: —
Mrs C. Leith on behalf of the executive, Mrs Girven (Tisbury Women’s Institute), Mrs Reinke (Clifton Women’s Institute), Mrs Birss (Longbush Women s Institute) and Mrs C. McKenzie and Mrs H. Wilson on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The aggregate prizes for the yearly competitions in sewing and baking were won by Mrs Saunders 1, Mrs Lapham 2, Mrs Wardrop 3. These three women were also first, second and third respectively in the blooms aggregate competition.
