EASTERN SOUTHLAND HUNT CLUB
OPENING MEET HELD AT OTAMITA The Eastern Southland Hunt Club held its first meet of the season on Saturday. It was a successful drag hunt on the properties of Messrs J. Miller and G. D. Wilson, Otamita. The course was a difficult one for maiden horses, there being eight jumps over gorse and rail, but the going was good and there were no falls. There were 21 followers and a crowd of about 100 spectators attended. Two very promising new hunters were seen in action, these being W. Green’s Gay Feather and K. Whiteley’s Silk Spot. Those following were: Messrs G. Wayte (master) on Free Trade, W. Wayte (huntsman) on Full Flight, J. B. Wilson on Te Anau, and N. Kelly on Anon (whips), Miss G. Jones on Gladstone, Miss E. Carter on Gipsy, Miss Mullan on Tony, Miss Scott on Winnie, Messrs W. Green on Gay Feather, A. Dodds on Deanna Durbin, K. Whiteley on Silk Spot, R. Ford on Rollem, G. D. Wilson on Walmo, P. Ford on Maxie, G. Kelly on Clipper, J. Ford on Dashit, R. McCallum on Blackbird, A. Terry on Horns Reef, W Whiteley on Shearer, W. McLeod on Doll and T. McLeod on Silver Coin.
Jumping competitions held during the afternoon resulted as follows:—
Open jump: J. Wilson’s Te Anau 1, G. Wayte's Free Trade 2, W. Waytc’s Full Flight 3. Maiden jump: K. Whiteley’s Silk Spot 1, W. Wayte's Winnie 2, Miss E. Carter's Gipsy 3. Consolation jump: W. Wayte’s Full Flight 1, N. Kelly’s Anon .2, A. Dodd's Deanna Durbin 3.
Ponp jump: W. Whiteley's Sheila 1, E. Carter’s Gipsy and B. Scott’s Winnie equal 2.
