WEDDING
PRENDERGAST—MENNIE
The wedding was solemnized on April 14 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Waikiwi, of Pearl Elizabeth,
youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs a’ W. Mennie, Metzger street, Georgetown, and Francis Michael, youngest son of Mr Thomas Prendergast and the late Mrs Prendergast, North road, Waikiwi. The Rev. Father McGettigan performed the ceremony and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Miss Mary Fitzgerald was the organist. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a trained frock of white georgette. The gathered bodice had a heart-shaped neckline and full bishop sleeves. Her veil, which was lent by her cousin, Mrs J. Milne, of Waikaia, was long with a deep border of lace at the edge and was held in place with a spray of flowers. Her bouquet was of white roses and lilies.
The bridesmaids were Miss Margery Jones and Miss Pearl Dempster. They wore ankle-length frocks of powdered blue georgette with wide picture hats to match.
The flower girls, Heather Mollison and Shirley Beck, cousins of the bride, wore ankle-length frocks of pink georgette with bouquets to match, and John Phelan, nephew of the bride was page boy. The best man was Mr Frank Fulton, and the groomsman was Mr W. Newell. Mr J. Prendergast, Timaru, was usher. At the reception at Elmwood Garden the guests were received by the bride’s mother and Mrs Thompson, sister of the bridegroom.
For travelling the bride wore a grey frock and coat with grey accessories. Before her marriage the bride was entertained at a gift evening by her cousin, Mrs N. Beck, Tweed street, and also by Miss Margery Jones, Alice street.
