Cloudy And Cool
(Special) WELLINGTON, April 27. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong easterly to southerly winds. Weather cloudy and cool, with scattered drizzle or rain. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair at first generally. A drizzle of rain developing, however, on the West Coast of the South Island and becoming more general during the next day or two. Temperatures mild in the north and cool in the south. Winds.—North-easterly predominating over the North Island and south-east-erly over the South Island, force strong in the Auckland peninsula, elsewhere moderate but freshening. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rough north of Tauranga, otherwise slight to moderate, but rising gradually on the East Coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong north-easterly winds in the northern portion and south-easterlies in the southern.
The weather in Invercargill during the week-end was cold and changeable. Rain began to fall late on Saturday afternoon and continued during the evening. Yesterday morning the sky was overcast, but in the early afternoon there was bright sunshine and this continued throughout the afternoon.
At one o’clock this morning the weather was cold and frosty. The barometer reading was 30.44 in (rising).
