OTAUTAU

GARDEN CLUB SHOW The Otautau Garden Club’s annual show was run this year in conjunction with the members of the local branch of the R.S.A., the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and the Farmers Union. The proceeds of the show are to be devoted to patriotic funds. There was a good attendance of the public and the function was a success. The entries showed an increase on the previous year, and the quality of the exhibits

was of a high standard. Sweets and produce stalls and tea-rooms were run by the women members of the Patriotic Committee, and the Scouts, Girl Guides and school children took £2C as a result of a copper trail. In officially opening the show, the Rev. H. B. Burnett congratulated the exhibitors on the display and thanked the members of the Garden Club for giving the profits to the Patriotic Association. Competitions were won as follows: Electric iron, Mr W. Baker; sack of flour, Mrs James Kennedy; picture, Mr G. R. McMillan; and duchess set, Mrs Dahlenburg. Following were the winners of the

Smellie, the stewards, the stall-holders special prizes: Most points in show, crystal vase, given by Messrs N. McFadgen and S. J. Lightfool. Mrs W. Lindsay (Wallacetown) 87 points; run-ner-up, Miss T. Seatter, 89 points. Section 1, Mrs W. Lindsay (30) Section 2, Mrs W. Lindsay (36). Section 3, Mrs W. Lindsay (52). Section 4, vegetables, Miss T. Seatter (18). Section 5, jams and jellies, Miss T. Seatter (40). Section 5, baking, Miss Zora Sutherland (27). Children’s section, Flowers, Beth Gould (8); vegetables, Graham Lee and Jacqueline Watson (Merrivale), equal (13). After the show Mr D. Mitchell, in the absence of the president, thanked the judges, Mesdames Watson and W.
