CANTERBURY BEATS OTAGO (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 10. A defeat by an innings and 18 runs was the fate of Otago -in the return cricket match with Canterbury, which finished at Carisbrook early this afternoon. The fact that the defeat was not considerably heavier was due to a much-improved display of batting by I some of the Otago players. They started ! in the morning after having scored 187 and 118 for six wickets in reply to Canterbury’s total of 507 for six wickets (declared), and Knight, Chettleburgh and J. D. Blakely batted so much more confidently that there were grounds for hope for some time that the visitors would have to bat again. Knight took the honours of the day with an innings of 152, an addition of a neat 100 to his overnight score. His aggregate for the match was 208, a really outstanding performance, considering his team’s aggregate was 489. The Knight-Chettle-burgh partnership added 129 runs.
