Fair And Warm (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 10. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Freshening winds from a westerly quarter, fair at first and warm but scattered rain extending from the west. Seas moderate but rising. The Dominion forecast is as follows:— The weather for the most part fair to fine with scattered rain developing tomorrow however in the southwestern and far southern areas of the South Island. Temperatures mild to warm. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone covers New Zealand but pressure is falling again in the south with the advance of a westerly depression across the South Tasman Sea. Winds.—Moderate and variable in the north and moderate but freshening northerly to westerly winds prevailing from Cook Strait southward. Seas.—Slight or moderate generally at first, but later rising about Cook Strait and south of Westport. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Light to variable winds and slight seas in the northern portion and moderate but freshening northwesterly winds and gradually rising seas in the southern portion. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and warm, but in the evening the sky became overcast and a strong wind from the north-west sprang up. At one o’clock this morning the weather was mild and there was a light south-westerly breeze. The barometer readings for this morning, Monday and Saturday have been:— This morning (falling) 29.94 in. Monday 30.20 in. Saturday 30.14 in.
