COMPULSORY WAR LOAN

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 10. A complaint that representatives of members of the fighting forces overseas were receiving notices demanding payment of contributions to the Compulsory War Loan was referred to the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, today. The Minister said that the circular referred to was sent out in accordance with the usual procedure. The department concerned could not possibly know the names of income tax payers who were overseas on active service. Every assessment was subject to appeal, and an appeal committee would fully and carefully consider every case, and could safely be left to determine every application on behalf of absent soldiers in accordance with their service to the Commonwealth.
