GORE RACING CLUB’S SUMMER FIXTURE

Quite a sharp easterly wind made coats or suits, eithei' tailored or sporting, the order of the day at the first day of the Gore Racing Club’s summer meeting on Saturday. The coats were worn in most cases over light frocks of contrasting or matching colours. The edge-to-edge coat style has become most popular, and in one case a plain navy blue coat opened in front to reveal a navy and white silk frock. The ensemble was completed with a white corded silk toque swathed with a navy blue veil. Another edge-to-edge coat was in hydrangea blue, and was worn over a blue and cyclamen-figured frock. The wearer, instead of a hat, had tied her blue sncod net to resemble a turban instead of the usual idea of a band knotted in front. There was quite a number of snood nets and scarves instead of hats, and in a few cases bare heads were seen. Hats, for the most part, were of lightweight felt. Blues, from navy to quite pale shades, were the predominating colours, but the new hunting green provided some bright splashes of colour. A number of people travelled from Invercargill and country districts for the fixture, and among those present were Mesdames A. W. Hain, R. Lusk, F. Wallis, N. M. Sandes, O. Anderson, F. W. Oakden, L.
