Conversion Of Bridge • A suggestion was recently made that the railway bridge at Garston should be converted to a combined road and railway bridge. At the meeting of the Southland County Council yesterday a letter was received from the Railway Department stating that those interested in the matter had been advised that the department would make the existing footway suitable for sheep traffic if they were prepared to meet the cost of £9O. The proposal was referred to the Lake County Council. Buildings In County
No Government permits are required for new buildings in the Southland county of an estimated cost of under £2OOO or for buildings that would require less than half a ton of steel, according to a letter received by the council yesterday from the Building Controller, Mr G. W. Albertson. For buildings over £2OOO in value or those which would require half a ton of steel or more it would be necessary for applications for permits to be made to the Ministry of Supply.
